-
Should the roofing contractor I choose be insured?
Yes! The reason being, your contractor should be prepared to insure an accident that may occur during the installation of your roof. Beware that there is a difference between FULL roofing insurance, and a general repairman policy.
-
My insurance company stated I need 3 estimates. Is that true?
Insurance companies may suggest the homeowner to get 3 estimates. The fact is, the homeowner has the right to hire its contractor of choice.
-
Will my premium go up if I file a claim with my insurance company?
Filling a claim for hail, wind or anything storm related is considered an "act of God" by the insurance. Which the homeowner has no control over, therefore the premium will NOT increase. Insurances CANNOT individually raise premiums based on a claim of the roof.
The only way a premium will increase is when a big storm hits in a particular area. This will make every homeowners premium increase in that particular affected area. This is a good thing to consider when hurricane season is approaching.

How can I recognize when my roof system has problems?
A primary issue, when detecting a damaged roof is that most homeowners assume their roof does not have any problems, unless they detect a water leak. Leaks are usually a result of old damage that has occurred without you ever knowing. A professional inspection by an insured roofing contractor is the only way to preemptively catch such damage before water actually leaks inside. Truth is, there are a series of signs that could point out your roof system has issues and if it should be replaced soon. Here is a list of items to look out for when considering a full roof replacement:
EXTERIOR DAMAGE:
Missing, cracked and loose shingles
Granules accumulating in downspout and gutters
INTERIOR DAMAGE:
Watermarks/water leaks
Peeling wallpaper
Rotten decking in the attic
